CAMP LAKE JAMES HONORED BY AMERICAN INSTITUTE OF ARCHITECTS

Lake James, N.C. –The Asheville chapter of the American Institute of Architects selected Camp Lake James and its architect Bruce Johnson for a 2008 merit award. The Camp and 11 other projects were selected from a pool of more than 80 applicants. One of the distinctions that earned The Camp this award was Crescent’s dedication to create a genuine destination using the styles and techniques that established the holiday camps of the 1920s. Here’s what one judge had to say:

“The architect and builder were serious students of vernacular building forms in wood and stone in the North Carolina mountains. This project has some of the boldness and mystery of the Grove Park Inn. We loved the simplicity of the architect’s drawing, which showed the concept for the structure and the strategy for building it without being proscriptive.”

We hope you’ll come see Camp Lake James for yourself. You can click here to view photos of Camp Lake James, or make plans to stay in one of the new rental cabins managed by The Camp’s staff.
