CRESCENT COMMUNITIES ON LAKE JAMES RECOGNIZED BY NATIONAL PARK SERVICE
Lake James, N.C. – On Oct. 7, the superintendent of the Overmountain Victory National Historic Trail presented Crescent Communities on Lake James a certificate of achievement for creating the first of 3.5 miles of new pathways on the trail. These pathways are inside Crescent’s 1780 community, creating a “linear national park” that runs through the community.

The Overmountain Victory National Historic Trail traces the route the patriot militia, dubbed the “Overmountain Men,” took on their way to victory over the British forces at the Battle of Kings Mountain. This battle is considered by many historians to be the turning point of the war. In fact the community, 1780, is named after the year of the battle.

To make the extension possible, Crescent worked with representatives from the National Park Service to conceive and build the pathways to the federal agency’s specifications. Crescent also purchased several parcels of land on which the pathways would reside, most notably the area in 1780 known as “Hully Gully,” where an intimate enclave of 12 cabin homesites has just been released.

For more on 1780, Hully Gully and the Trail, visit LakeJames.com.
