Green Building at The Sanctuary
How we build our homes is one of the most significant ways we can positively impact the environment. By building “green” homes, we address a wide range of environmental issues such as protecting our forest and wildlife habitats, conserving energy and water resources, keeping waste out of landfills and protecting air quality.
Not only do we promote a sustainable future by building green, we also reap the benefits of a more comfortable and durable home that costs less to maintain. As a homeowner at the Sanctuary, you (and the environment!) benefit from builders preserving our surroundings and natural resources.
Through our parternship with Audubon International, we've developed a list of 100 things you can do to be more environmentally friendly. There are many ways to help protect the environment!
Leading by Example
the Sanctuary’s sales and information center is designed to be energy-efficient without giving up the luxuries that discerning buyers expect.
- Its pervious concrete driveway reduces runoff and erosion.
- The carpet uses fibers made from recycled soda containers.
- A high-efficiency air handling system allows air to be filtered and returned to the home.

Green building isn't limited just to the Sanctuary's homes. The John James Audubon Lodge at The Camp also incorporates several environmentally friendly construction methods and has earned Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. Leaves of Honor
the Sanctuary's Green Leaf Certification Program recognizes homes as green (one leaf), greener (two leaves) and greenest (three leaves).
Each leaf represents increasing percentages of the recommended green-building techniques. The "greener" the house, the more leaves it earns. |

Don’t Just Take Our Word for It …
“Building green pays big dividends,” says Ronald G. Dodson, President and CEO of Audubon International. “Homeowners around the world are looking for lifestyles that include ‘built-in’ ways to help the environment. Taking advantage of the opportunities associated with Audubon International and the Sanctuary’s Green Leaf Certification Program is just good business.
"Our partnership with Crescent Resources is an ideal example of the effort
and dedication required to plan, build, manage and live in a sustainable manner.
We fully anticipate the Sanctuary to be a national model for sustainable development.
Now and for future generations, the Sanctuary will be as protective of nature
as it is welcoming to the human spirit."
